Who We Help

We work with professional services firms
across Lanarkshire and Central Scotland who have
outgrown basic accountancy support.

Why growing professional
services firms in Lanarkshire
need more than a year-end
accountant

Whether you’re running a solicitors practice, an architects or surveying firm, or a consultancy, the financial pressures that come with growing a professional services firm tend to follow a similar pattern.

We know, because we’re one ourselves. As an owner-managed accountancy firm, we know what it’s like to be responsible for a team and a pipeline while still needing headspace to run the business properly.

From the outside, your business is doing well, but the numbers underneath aren’t giving you a clear enough view of what’s really going on. Fees go out late because billing hasn’t kept up with the work, and cash ends up tighter than the level of activity suggests it should be.

The further the firm grows from those early days when you could see everything at a glance, the harder it gets to manage on instinct alone.

That tends to lead to the same problems, whatever the firm.

Loss of clarity and focus

The business keeps moving but you’re not sure where it’s heading. The day-to-day takes over and the important things get pushed aside.

Decisions get deferred

Decisions get made on gut feel or put off altogether. You know there are things that need addressing but there’s never a good time to deal with them.

Loss of control

As the business grows, the cash gets harder to manage and your confidence in the numbers drops. You’re working harder than ever, but feeling less in control of it.

Everything ends up sitting with you

More ends up with the owner, which causes you stress, and bottlenecks within the team. The business starts to feel much harder to run than it should.

Not every firm needs the same thing from their accountant

FAQs

It’s common, as many accountants are just set up to keep you compliant with accounts and tax return deadlines. If yours only appears when something is due, you’re probably missing out on tax planning and financial insight that could make a real difference to how you run and grow your business.

Yes. A generalist accountant will keep you compliant, but they won’t necessarily understand how a professional services firm works. You’re selling time and expertise, not a product, and that changes the financial picture considerably. Revenue gets recognised differently, your cash flow is rarely predictable, and a generalist may not pick up on what that means for your business. Without that context, you’re getting compliance but not much else.

That’s fine, most people aren’t sure until they talk it through. The best starting point is a conversation about where the business is now and what’s feeling difficult. From there it’s usually clear which level of support fits. Book a call and we’ll help you work it out.

No. If you already have a bookkeeper or payroll provider in place and want to keep them, we work alongside existing arrangements across all three packages. The last thing we want is to disrupt something that’s already working.

In most cases, switching is simpler than people expect. We handle the handover from your previous accountant, deal with any outstanding paperwork, and get everything set up properly from the start. The process typically takes two to four weeks from the first conversation to being fully up and running.

Yes. We’re based in Bellshill and work with professional services firms across Lanarkshire and Central Scotland. Most of our clients prefer to meet in person at least once, and we’re set up to make that easy.

We work with all kinds of professional service firms, but a lot of our clients are solicitors, surveyors, architects, consultants and similar owner-managed practices, typically turning over between £250k and £3m. If you’re running an owner-managed professional services firm in Lanarkshire or Central Scotland and you want more than compliance support, it’s probably worth a conversation.
